The camera doesn't determine the quality. Part of taking good pictures is using the right lens, but picture quality is mostly determined by the photographer.
Canon and Nikon are really good camera brands. Personally, I'd go with a Canon, but it's up to you to get the camera that has what you need.
D90 video is nothing like this. It’s nice but not nearly as stunning as what the D3S can do.

I actually have a 75 gallon Malawi tank! If I had the money I would spend it on Texas Holey Rock… it looks absolutely beautiful especially with the fish colors.
I have an all male tank, keeps the aggression down since there aren't any females to fight over. And one male per species I wouldn't put two greshakei males together…
I wouldn't add any plants because they cichlids will munch on those, even though there are a couple they won't eat, it's not gauranteed and they will eventually uproot them and redecorate the tank for you.
I love the yellow labs, they give you that punch of color you want in a tank. I also have some OB Peacock and a red peacock! I am planning on buying a Pseudotropheus Polit, and a Haplochromis Burtoni. I also have a Greshakei and an Azureus. OH my goodness I almost forgot about my Acei, great color too! The more color the better in my opinion and you will get that with an all male tank.
I would suggest trying to buy some cichlids either online or at a lfs, I would stay away from Petco they don't have a good selection. Petsmart isn't bad…
Do not buy from any tank that is listed mixed or assorted africans… they are hybrids….
I would put about 20 in a 75 gallon, overstocking helps keep the aggression down too.

no, but you can make some kinda “hack” where you just get the live view the Computer and then you can record it. It’s not HD but very good quality.

when you mean 35mm, it's a film camera right? If so, I would strongly suggest a manual SLR camera. Something like the Nikon FM10, or if you're in a budget, there's a plethora of second hand SLR out there. Get a secondhand Nikon FM2 at eBay. Depending on condition, you can get one for under $100. For the ultimate manual SLR, this thing is a steal.
Or if you want something cheaper, I think a Pentax K1000 would do the job just fine.
Otherwise, go to a local camera service center – sometimes they have second hand camera they're willing to give/sell for cheap.

hell yeah man! you're lucky to have a quality camera like that by the way, its got 10.2 megapixels which is more than enough to take high quality pictures that print out pretty large with optimum clarity also its optical not digital which is always a nice feature, go for it man, make sure your studio has good lighting too, make sure its not located near a bunch of shade.
My brothers dog, was amazing gorgeous Lab. I was dog sitting him and he woke me in the night howling at me and nudging me with his nose and pacing back and forth to the door, so I got up (thought he wanted a wee) but he ran into my 3 year old daughters room, she had been throwing up everywhere and was really sick and I didn't hear a thing! But my good friend Rocky did, and he had never been around children before I dread to think what may have happened if he wasn't there the gorgeous boy!

I have to scratch my head and wonder why a school would want a student starting out in photography to go out and buy one of the industry's top end cameras?!?!? As an art director in a communications firm, we successfully produce photography with much more moderate equipment.
I can recommend Nikon D200 and D80 bodies as very cost-effective platforms to start with. They have more features than most photographers will ever use. The D300 is a fairly recent addition and exceeds the capabilities of the D200. What's more important for your needs is to spend the money on what's really critical… the glass on the front of the camera. Don't be talked into buying consumer grade "super" zooms and budget lenses. Do your homework here and find good quality prime lenses whenever possible. Once you've got the process and techniques down, then you can move up to a high-end body and take the lenses with you.

The best possible way to find out is to call the station and ask.
I have sent JPG images, and I have also had the TV crews come to the lab and just video tape a print. The JPG's are from digital cameras at 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 MP, depending on who took the picture. Either way will work, although sending them a JPG image would be easiest for both of you.
You can use any camera you wish for still images, although you obviously want something with a little better quality than a cell phone camera. Any modern digital from a real camera company will work, a cheap Kodak would be as good as a $7,000 DSLR for this purpose. Even if your image is displayed at full screen, it is still no more than 2MP on TV. Well lit and sharp focus would be the two main requirements.
