If you understand how to use a DSLR and SLR (PASM) then nothing reading the manual wont take care of. If you shot with the XT on auto then yes the learning curve will be daunting.

I guess BlueBell would be one that I would stay away from as it doesn't have as many features as some.
I have only used PhotoMix software for my digital scrapbooking. It works for me as I like to make many collages and such.

Yes there is an adapter available, but don't waste your money on it.
This will allow you to get your old lenses onto your new Digital Rebel, but none of automatic features you bought your new camera for will work with the old lenses.
Also, be aware that the new Canon EF lenses are far superior both optically and quality wise to the old lenses you have. The new Canon lens system will take pictures which are far superior than anything you'll lenses could take.
It is called the alliance starbird.

should be able to share it immediately to other users on phone/pda/camera.
image stabilisation should be improved so shaky hands is no problem.
user interface also shud be improved to make it fool proof.
As an amateur photographer you may want to buy a Rebel T2 or K2 and start learning how to be a photographer and then start learning how to be a photographer, maybe take a photography class.
Starting with a 35mm camera is how most amateur photographers start learning how to produce excellent photographs

For an amateur I would recommend Nikon D40 which is an excellent camera to learn with and save your money for another good lens.When you ready to upgrade to better level you can change camera body only and you can use your stock lens.You can get Nikon D40 with 2 lens package with same price as Canon Rebel XS.
It depends on what youve heard. Its a nice 35mm film camera with A, P, S, A and M modes. No reason to think it wont provide good photos. If youve heard it has some magical powers to make every photo you take a masterpiece someones exaggerated.
Watch the price. A very good condition X body only is available used from B&H for $69
If youre buying from an auction or private party the price should be lower than a retailers price.
