Look on page 25 and 26 of your users guide and reattach the lens and try again.
If you are still having problems, call Nikon 800.NIKON-UX.
The good news is your problem is rare. Some lenses require you lock the aperture ring at the lenses smallest aperture, usually f/16 or f/22
There is a slight possibility that the depth of field preview button is stuck. Look on page 82 of your users guide

Well….one thing is for sure….THIS WAS IT!
I like looking for prices at comparison shopping sites first. They have the user ratings for product and stores, and also throw out stores that perform badly or are fraudulent. I bought my wife a Nikon D90 for Christmas last year. I have enclosed the link to the site where I find the one for her. If you will notice JR.com and BeachCamera.com have a great ratings and a great prices. It is a great camera. Good luck.

A dSLR with an all-purpose lens like an 18-250, so you don't need to lug around extra lenses.
A word of advice: while this is certainly a good opportunity to get a better camera, it is not the right time to find out that you don't know how to unlock the full potential of a dSLR. That would only lead to missed shots and frustration. So, unless you are already proficient with camera operation, it might also be a good time to enroll in a basic photography course.
Enjoy your trip.

It's pretty easy. You do need to have the USB cable that came with your camera. With it turned off, take any card out of the camera, turn it on to "review" mode (the one that you use to look a computers on the back), plug the usb cable into your camera and computer. You may have to click a menu on the camera for something like "PC mode". A window should pop up on the computer that will allow you to open an explorer window to review the images. Copy them over to your hard drive like the camera was any other hard drive.
